Every Stillnote release, and what actually changed

When your audio dies mid-meeting, Stillnote notices, recovers, and stops putting words in your mouth

A meeting where the audio quietly fails is the worst thing that can happen to a notes app, because it produces a note that looks complete and is wrong. This release makes every one of those failures visible, recoverable, and honest about who said what.

• The system-audio capture is now watched, and restarted if it dies. Previously the tap could stop delivering everyone else's audio partway through a call and nothing said so: the recording continued, the note was written, and only the owner's side of the conversation was in it. Stillnote now detects the dead tap, rebuilds it in place, and tells you on screen that it happened and when.
• Your words are no longer put in other people's mouths. When the far-end audio dies, everything still being heard comes from your own microphone, and the app used to label the whole span as you speaking, which is how a meeting ends up with 950 lines attributed to the wrong person. Attribution is now withdrawn for any span where the other side is known to be missing, in the live preview as well as the finished note.
• A microphone that is hardware-muted is now recognized as broken, not as silence. The dead-audio detector needed to hear you talking before it would believe the far end had failed, so if your mic was muted at the same time, the one recording where both captures failed was the one recording that passed every check.
• Vision no longer reads names off the wrong window. The on-screen name reader could latch onto whatever window happened to be in front, including a screen share or an unrelated app, and turn its text into meeting participants. It now requires positive evidence that the window is a meeting before it will capture from it, and it can no longer merge two genuinely different speakers into one person.
• Text stays sharp when you move the window between displays. On a multi-display Mac the interface could go soft or blurry after being dragged to a screen with a different scale factor.
• Google Calendar access is now the narrowest we can ask for. Stillnote reads your calendar to know who is in a meeting and what it is called. It previously requested broader access than it uses, and now requests only what it actually reads.

Notes stop repeating themselves, and names get learned before the meeting

Three fixes to the quality of what you actually read afterwards: notes no longer restate the same section twice, your calendar now teaches Stillnote the names it is about to hear, and one mislabelled meeting can no longer corrupt a saved voice profile.

• Notes no longer repeat themselves. Generated notes sometimes came out with the same section twice, once under a repeated heading and once as a reworded restatement of a section above it. Both forms are now removed before the note is saved, and genuinely distinct sections that merely look similar are kept.
• The Personal Dictionary now fills itself in from your calendar. Stillnote already biased transcription toward the names in your dictionary, but the dictionary only filled up if you found the button, so for most people it was empty and the feature did nothing. It now scans your connected calendar at startup, before any meeting is transcribed, so colleague and client names are spelled correctly the first time rather than after you correct them. No calendar connected is simply a no-op, and the scan runs on your Mac like everything else.
• A wrong speaker label can no longer poison a saved voice profile. Recognizing a returning speaker by voice is useful right up until one bad label teaches the wrong name to a profile that then carries the mistake into every later meeting. A voiceprint match now has to be corroborated before it can name anyone, so a single mislabel stays a single mislabel.
• Naming the same person for two different speakers in one meeting no longer overwrites their saved voice. Stillnote often splits one person into more than one speaker, and giving both the same name is the right thing to do, so that still works exactly as before. What changed is underneath: only the label is applied, and the saved voice profile is left alone, because a single meeting cannot tell us which of those two voices is really them. Previously the second one silently replaced the first.

Naming a speaker now actually reaches your notes

You could rename Speaker 2 to a real person and the note itself would keep saying Speaker 2, which made speaker naming look broken even though it was working. Names now flow all the way through to the written note.

• Naming a speaker relabels the note, not just the transcript view.
• Notes written before you corrected a name are backfilled, so you do not have to redo old meetings.
• The summarizer is handed the attendee list from your calendar invite, so it stops inventing people who were never in the room.
• New Regenerate notes action, for a second pass after you have corrected names.
• Fixed a prompt regression from this work that briefly made notes come out as raw transcript dumps.

Versions 0.2.4 through 0.2.6 were built during this work but never published as separate releases.

Critical fix: opening a meeting crashed the app

Version 0.2.0 shipped a crash that hit the very first thing anyone does after recording. Clicking any meeting crashed the view, which meant a person who downloaded 0.2.0 could not open a single note. This release fixes it.

• Fixed the crash on opening any saved meeting. If you downloaded Stillnote between July 23 and July 28 and could not open your notes, this is the fix, and updating resolves it.
• Calendar invitees are now offered as speaker-name suggestions, so the invite list stops being ignored when you put names to voices.
• Added the lint rule that would have caught this crash class before release, and made it a pre-ship gate.

We would rather write this entry than quietly delete it. Version 0.2.2 was built and notarized but superseded by 0.2.3 before it was published.

Follow-up drafts, receipts, a network meter that reads zero, and retro-record

The largest feature release since launch. Every one of these runs on your Mac, and none of them adds a single network call to a meeting.

• Follow-Up Studio. One button on a finished meeting drafts the recap email, addressed to the attendees on the calendar invite, and opens it as an editable draft in your own mail client. Stillnote has no ability to send it. You read it, edit it, and send it yourself, from your own account, or you do not.
• Receipts. Export one moment as a single local file: the exact quote, its timestamp, the speaker, a short audio clip around it, and the surrounding transcript for context. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you deliberately export that one moment.
• Zero Bytes network meter. A live reading of Stillnote's own network activity, in the app and in the menu bar while you record, plus a ledger that labels any traffic that did occur. The privacy promise stops being a sentence on a website and becomes a number you can watch during a call.
• Retro-Record. A short rolling audio buffer is held in memory, never on disk, so when a conversation gets important five minutes before anyone hit record, a global keyboard shortcut can start a real session and splice the last few minutes onto the front.
• Personal Dictionary. Teach Stillnote the proper nouns it keeps getting wrong, client names, colleague names, product names, and transcription is biased toward them. Your contacts never leave your Mac to make this work, which is the part a cloud tool structurally cannot copy.
• Meeting-app awareness. Stillnote reads the participant roster and mute state from the meeting app itself rather than only from the screen, which gives exact name spellings and works when the meeting window is on another display. Mute Guard uses it to tell you when you are talking on mute, or unmuted with background noise, based on your own enrolled voice rather than any voice in the room.
• French transcription safety net, and hardened settings so a model or language choice made in the app cannot be lost.

Dock and menu-bar fixes, and better speaker naming

A cleanup release for the things you look at all day.

• Fixed a dead Dock icon and the tray icon behaviour.
• Shrank the menu-bar meter so it stops crowding the rest of the menu bar.
• Fixes to speaker naming, renaming, and Ask.

If Stillnote crashes mid-meeting, the recording survives

The crash-safe recording work that 0.1.5 shipped the foundations for is now complete and visible in the app.

• On launch, Stillnote looks for a recording that was interrupted and offers to recover and save it.
• The live transcript and title are written to a durable file every few seconds while you record, so there is always a real snapshot to recover from.
• Meetings you already saved are never offered back to you as false recoveries.

Recording data-loss fixes, and speaker naming that copes with real screens

A required update. The recording session is now durable, capture faults are shown instead of being swallowed, and a meeting can never be saved as an empty transcript.

• Durable recording sessions with a crash-safe manifest.
• A capture fault now surfaces in the app instead of failing silently.
• A guard that prevents a meeting being saved with an empty transcript.
• Speaker naming reads the names on screen even when cameras are off and only initials tiles are showing, works on any display rather than only the main one, and shows a clear banner when it is running degraded.

Version 0.1.4 was built but never published, and was superseded by this release.

Speaker names get a confidence score, and voice matches only ever suggest

Names are read from the screen multiple times across a meeting and aggregated, and how confident Stillnote is about a name is shown in the interface.

• Automatic speaker naming with a visible confidence level, and every label stays editable.
• A voiceprint match is a suggestion you confirm, never a decision made for you. Confirming is what enrolls it.

First-run setup that tells you when something did not work

A seven-step first-run wizard that walks through the macOS permissions Stillnote needs and shows a real recovery path when one is denied, rather than leaving you with an app that quietly does nothing.

• Guided first-run setup: permissions with visible failure paths, calendar connection, and menu-bar orientation.
• On-device crash and error capture, so a failure is recorded on your Mac instead of vanishing.
• Diagnostics reporting is opt-in and off unless you turn it on, and there is a Privacy tab in Settings where you control it.

No more waiting at the end of a meeting, plus automatic titles and cross-meeting To-Dos

Transcription now runs live while the meeting happens, so the transcript is already there when the call ends.
